Testimonials

KarelianHaus Caja "Caja":
From our initial contact, to choosing a puppy and beyond Susan has been very responsive, helpful and encouraging. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience with the KBD breed. Susan matched us with Caja very professionally and with all out wishes and hopes in mind. She did extensive testing which was so interesting to go through. I've had KBD's before and Caja does not disappoint! She is a very high drive, intelligent and playful puppy. One look at her and there is no doubt that she is a Karelian Bear Dog. We are excited to see what the future holds for us and for all out hunting adventure that will be had!

KarelianHaus Carina "Mira":
We couldn’t be happier with our experience working with Susan. She is professional, knowledgeable, and clearly cares about her dogs. From the start Susan provided thoughtful guidance and continues to offer ongoing support. What truly stood out for us was her commitment to safety. Susan went out of her way to help us avoid incoming inclement weather, ensuring both Mira and our family were safe and comfortable. We highly recommend Susan to anyone looking for a responsible and dedicated breeder. Mira is now six months old. She is smart, adventurous, and very loving. She is a good fit for our family, and an amazing sister to our older dog.

KarelianHaus Camu "Leo":
After extensive research, we discovered the Karelian Bear Dog and that journey led us to our beloved Max. He was with us for 17½ wonderful years, and he made us fall completely in love with the breed. After losing him, it took time before we were ready for another dog, but when we were, we knew without hesitation that we wanted another KBD.
As we began searching for a breeder, we came across KarelianHaus. When Susan reached out to us, we instantly knew she was the right breeder. Her knowledge, dedication, and passion for preserving and improving this breed are unmatched.
When we learned that Pam was expecting a litter, we were thrilled knowing that we would soon be getting a puppy. Throughout the entire process, Susan kept us updated with weekly photos and constant information about how the puppies were growing and developing. From our very first conversation, she understood exactly what kind of personality would fit our family — and that’s how we were matched with Leo.
When Susan brought us Leo, we got to meet his mom, and we were immediately drawn to her, as she has a wonderful temperament. That same evening, we also met Leo’s brother and sister and watched them all play together before they went to their forever homes. As Susan went through Leo’s pedigree, it was clear how much time, care, and expertise she pours into her dogs and her breeding program.
Since bringing Leo home, we’ve stayed in close contact with Susan, sharing updates and photos as he grows. Not only have we gained a wonderful new family member in Leo, but we’ve also gained a friend in Susan. Her support, dedication, and genuine love for the breed mean the world to us.
I would absolutely recommend KarelianHaus if this is the breed for you.

KarelianHaus Birra "Taiga":
We are incredibly happy with our dog Taiga from KarelianHaus! We were extremely impressed with the knowledge and dedication that Susan has for the breed. From the application to the interview it is very apparent and comforting to know that she truly cares and loves the dogs that she breeds and the puppies that she homes. Susan matched us perfectly with Taiga from her litter B selection. From the moment we brought Taiga home she has had a fantastic temperament. She is very confident, friendly with strangers, and able to navigate through new situations. She has been the perfect addition to our family! Taiga is extremely intelligent and has been very easy to train. We were able to take her hiking at 12 weeks old and her confidence has continued to grow as she has summited many peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Our vet has always been impressed with her growth and temperament at her routine checks, and we had many compliments on her breeding and temperament with the trainer that she saw. Susan has always made herself available to give us advise and answer any questions that we've had. We love that we've been able to stay in touch and share Taiga's progress and accomplishments. If you are looking for a loving, strong intelligent working bear dog we would highly recommend KarelianHaus!

KarelianHaus Bran "Bran":
Our family worked with Susan Haus to purchase a Karelian Bear Dog puppy. When it came time to pick up our pup, Susan was very flexible and worked with us to meet us halfway to conduct the exchange. I would recommend that people work with Karelian Haus because Susan is a very knowledgeable about KBD’s, training and breeding. This knowledge shows through in her professionalism, ensuring each pup is cared for properly conducting thorough reviews of potential owners and ensuring the pup has everything it needs to be cared for properly.

KarelianHaus Aslak "Milo":
Milo is our second Karelian Bear Dog, but the first we’ve adopted from Susan. We couldn’t be happier with the entire experience and absolutely love our dog. From the very beginning, it was clear that Susan genuinely cares about her puppies and is deeply committed to the breed.
Susan is extremely knowledgeable about Karelian Bear Dogs and took the time to make sure Milo would be a good fit for our family and lifestyle. She carefully reviewed the adoption process with us and provided detailed health and breed-specific information, which was incredibly helpful. Even after the adoption, Susan remained responsive, supportive, and always willing to answer any questions we had.
We’ve now had Milo for two years, and he has been an amazing addition to our family. He is affectionate, intelligent, playful, and very loyal. He’s wonderful with our family while also giving us extra peace of mind when we are out at the cabin. Milo has already had the opportunity to put his natural instincts to work by successfully chasing a bear away! We are very grateful for Susan’s guidance and dedication, and we would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a well-bred, well-socialized Karelian Bear Dog.

KarelianHaus Arko "Ripp":
Ripp, is our second Karelian and what a dog he is! We have always owned female dogs and our first Karelian female ‘Teija’ is 14 and still with us ( she came out of the US). She’s retired now and I was looking for another dog to take her place. In search of a Canadian breeder to work with, I happened upon Susan. I am so happy I did, she’s been wonderful to deal with and great sounding board while raising Ripp. Susan kinda talked me into a male, and I’m glad that she did. His extra size will help a lot with him being able to carry his own weigh (food etc) on our pack trips up North. He is much like his father ‘Pikki' from what I hear, literally unstoppable and driven in his pursuits. It is such a pleasure watching him work. I am an avid outdoorsman and hunter, spending weeks if not months annually in Northern BC. A hunting companion and protector is what I was looking for. Ripp is well on his way in that role. Although he’s not very happy about the dog pack that he’s required to wear. Karelian’s can be a bit difficult, so I have enlisted the help of a dog trainer to bring out Ripps full potential. Beyond the basic obedience training, we recognized a passion and ability in scent work, tracking as well as fetching in him from day one. Sooo, we thought let’s see if we can turn him into a bird dog as well! What a success that has been. Grouse, pheasant beware when this guys around. He will not stop once he has your scent. LOL. He is the strangest looking bird dog, such a treat. This next winter, we plan to run him on Lynx with another Karelian and its owner. Anxiously awaiting August and Ripp and my first Stone sheep hunt together. Thank you Susan for what you are doing for this breed, they are such amazing dogs.
